A prescribed dressing plan needs to remain consistent while the patient manages transfers, clothing and rehabilitation. Nursing visits can address accepted skilled dressing needs and communicate relevant instructions across the home care team.

Current dressing-order review

Dressing care follows a specific clinical order. The product, method and responsibilities should be clear before the accepted procedure is performed. A missing item or incomplete direction requires clarification from the responsible team, not substitution based on a product previously used by someone else.

Skilled procedure assessment

The dressing plan also needs to fit with daily tasks. Bathing, changing clothes and moving between surfaces can involve relevant precautions. Nursing should communicate those instructions to the therapist or assigned caregiver when they affect the activity. Rehabilitation does not independently revise the clinical dressing order.

Supply coordination

Not every dressing change establishes a skilled nursing need. Assessment and orders determine the appropriate professional and caregiver responsibilities. A helper needs explicit instruction before performing an assigned task. Supplies and benefits require their own confirmation, separate from arranging the visit. The procedure is one part of care and does not guarantee wound closure, a treatment interval or a healing timetable.

Eligibility and insurance review

Original Medicare Part A & B may cover eligible home health care when the applicable homebound, skilled-care, clinician-order and certification requirements are met and services follow an individual plan through a Medicare-certified agency. Coverage and any patient responsibility require verification. Blue Shield of California PPO and Anthem Blue Cross PPO benefits are also reviewed individually. Equipment, medications and separately billed services require their own benefit review.
