In exchange, the indoor circuit is set up properly from the first visit so there is a real program to fall back on rather than a week of nothing.

We also check the heating. A house heated by a wood stove is warm in one room and cold elsewhere, which shrinks the usable indoor space exactly when outdoors is unavailable — and carrying wood is itself a task worth assessing for someone recovering from a back or shoulder problem.

What the Evaluation Covers

Your therapist measures strength, joint range of motion, standing balance, and gait speed, then measures the property: which rooms are usable in winter, the indoor distance available for a circuit, the entry steps and deck, the drive length and surface, doorway widths against your device, furniture and bed heights, and the bathroom. Medications, blood pressure response to standing, and fall history are reviewed.

It also means the plan for a problem has to be clear in advance. We leave written guidance on what warrants an ambulance, what warrants a same-day call to your physician, and what is a question for our office, and we make sure the household knows where the medication list is kept and that the address is visible from the road. Visits are arranged for windows rather than exact times, because a mountain road does not offer alternatives, and every patient gets a home program self-sufficient enough to continue properly for a week if weather closes the route.

We coordinate with Antelope Valley Medical Center, Palmdale Regional Medical Center, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, Kaiser Permanente Antelope Valley Medical Offices, and the urgent care providers serving the region. Your physician receives objective measurements and progress notes after visits.
