In-Home Physical Therapy in Lake View Terrace
Lake View Terrace runs from the flats up to the foothill lots at the top of the valley ā Foothill Boulevard, Osborne Street, and Wheatland Avenue, the streets off Kagel Canyon, Dronfield, and Fenton, and the homes and horse properties bordering Hansen Dam. Lots are large, distances are long, and nothing here is walkable in the ordinary sense. Which means that the question almost every patient asks first is the one that actually matters most: when can I drive again? Our licensed physical therapists give it a proper answer.
Our therapists serve all Lake View Terrace neighborhoods, from the flats to the foothill lots, Foothill Boulevard, Osborne Street, and Wheatland Avenue, Kagel Canyon Street, Dronfield Avenue, and Fenton Avenue, and the homes and horse properties bordering Hansen Dam.
“When Can I Drive Again?” Deserves More Than a Guess
In a place where the nearest market is a drive, losing the car is losing independence, and patients push to get back behind the wheel early. The usual answer they receive is a vague number of weeks, which is unhelpful in both directions ā too cautious for some, dangerously optimistic for others.
The clearance itself is your physician’s decision, and medication is frequently the deciding factor: nobody should drive on opioid pain medication, whatever their leg is doing. What we can contribute is the physical side, measured rather than assumed. Can the right leg move from accelerator to brake with enough force and speed ā which matters enormously after a right knee or hip replacement. Can you turn your head far enough to check a blind spot, which is often the real limitation after shoulder or neck problems. Can you get in and out of the vehicle safely, and manage the parking to the door at the other end. We test those, write down what we find, and send it to your physician so their decision rests on measurements rather than on how well you say you feel.
What the Evaluation Covers
Your therapist measures strength, joint range of motion including neck rotation, standing balance, gait speed, and the specific movements driving requires, then measures the property: the distance and surface from the door to the vehicle, the transfer in and out, the entry steps, the drive, doorway widths against your device, furniture and bed heights, and the bathroom. Medications, blood pressure response to standing, and fall history are reviewed.
Conditions We Treat at Home
- Return-to-driving assessment of the physical components
- Recovery after knee, hip, and shoulder replacement or repair
- Balance deficits and fall prevention
- Gait retraining after stroke or with Parkinson’s disease
- Weakness and deconditioning after a hospital stay
- Carrying and uneven-ground training on rural lots
- Caregiver training for the household, in Spanish or English
Until Then, the Property Is the Program
Nothing here is within walking distance, so the outdoor program happens on your own land: the drive, the path to the outbuildings, the distance between the house and the gate. That is not a compromise ā it is measurable, private, available every day, and already part of your routine. We measure it and grade the distance against it. For households with animals, we also assess the tasks that cannot wait for a recovery ā carrying feed on loose footing, gates, and working around an animal that can shift its weight into you without warning ā and say specifically which to hand off for the next few weeks rather than issuing a blanket restriction.
Coordination With Your Physicians
We coordinate with Pacifica Hospital of the Valley, San Fernando Health Center, Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center, Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, and Mission Community Hospital. Your physician receives objective measurements and progress notes after visits, including the driving-related measurements when that is the question.

Starting Physical Therapy Services
Home physical therapy requires a physician order documenting medical necessity. Medicare may cover in-home physical therapy if you qualify, which generally requires a physician order, a skilled therapy need, and homebound status as Medicare defines it. What you pay depends on your specific plan, and coverage is not guaranteed in advance. We accept Original Medicare Part A & B, Blue Shield of California PPO, and Anthem Blue Cross PPO.
Our intake team verifies your coverage and explains your benefits in Spanish or English before services begin.

Discuss driving with your treating clinician, including any surgical restrictions, symptoms, and medicines that may impair alertness or reaction time. PT can assess relevant movement abilities and share findings. Some people also need a specialist driving assessment; completing home exercises does not itself establish driving readiness.
