Performance-Level Physical Therapy in Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach is built on a slope down to the water, and the Sand Section is the extreme case: houses on The Strand are entered from walk streets and stepped paths, multiple levels stacked vertically on narrow lots, and the beach itself is a flight below. The Hill Section climbs hard behind it. East Manhattan Beach, Manhattan Village, and the Mira Costa neighborhood flatten out into standard suburban blocks. Our licensed physical therapists build the plan around which of those a patient is coming home to.

Our therapists serve The Strand and Sand Section oceanfront properties, the Hill Section, tree streets, and downtown area, East Manhattan Beach and the Marine Avenue corridor, Manhattan Village and the Sepulveda Boulevard area, and Manhattan Heights and the Mira Costa neighborhood.

Active Patients Have Different Goals

A lot of our patients here were running, cycling, playing beach volleyball, or surfing until the injury or surgery that brought us in. That changes what “recovered” means. Walking safely to the kitchen is the floor, not the ceiling, and a program that stops there leaves a patient functional and frustrated.

So we test the capacities those activities actually require — single-leg balance under load, controlled deceleration, hop and landing mechanics where appropriate, and the ability to change direction without the knee buckling. We report which specific capacity is still short rather than declaring someone ready, and we do not predict a return-to-sport date.

What the Evaluation Covers

Your therapist measures strength, joint range of motion, standing balance, and gait speed, then applies them to your property: the walk street or stepped path, the multiple interior levels, the stairs to the beach, the bathroom transfer, and the route to where a vehicle stops. Medications, blood pressure response to standing, and fall history are reviewed.

Conditions We Treat at Home

  • Recovery after knee, hip, and shoulder surgery, including ligament repair
  • Multi-level and stepped-path training for Sand Section homes
  • Return-to-activity progression for running, cycling, and beach sport
  • Balance deficits and fall prevention on slope
  • Deconditioning after hospitalization or illness
  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain limiting an active routine
  • Balance progression onto sand

If You Are Not Homebound

This comes up often here, and the honest answer has two halves. Medicare’s homebound criterion does not mean bedbound — it generally means leaving home takes considerable and taxing effort and that you need help or a device. Plenty of active people meet it after surgery. Whether you do is a clinical determination made with your physician, not something we can promise in advance.

If you genuinely do not meet it, Medicare home health is not the right benefit, and we will tell you so rather than stretching a definition. Your ordering clinician can discuss outpatient alternatives. We do not offer private-pay services.

Coordination With Your Physicians

We coordinate with Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance, UCLA Health Manhattan Beach, and the Beach Cities Health District. Many patients here see orthopedic specialists well outside the South Bay; we send objective measurements and progress notes wherever your physician practices and call directly when a decision is needed.

Efficient Intake, Prompt Start

Home physical therapy requires a physician order documenting medical necessity. Medicare may cover in-home physical therapy if you qualify, under the conditions described above. Coverage is not guaranteed in advance. We accept Original Medicare Part A & B, Blue Shield of California PPO, and Anthem Blue Cross PPO.

Our intake team verifies your coverage and explains your options plainly before services begin. Most patients start within one to two days of a completed referral.
