In-Home Physical Therapy in View Park-Windsor Hills
View Park-Windsor Hills rises from the flats near Slauson up to the crest streets, along Angeles Vista Boulevard, Overhill Drive, and Presidio Drive, across Hillcrest Drive and the residential blocks between Stocker and Slauson. The houses are substantial 1920s through 1940s homes on a hillside, largely owner-occupied and held for a long time. A great many of the patients we see here are weighing a knee or hip replacement rather than recovering from one, and that is a point where physical therapy is genuinely useful and rarely offered. Our licensed physical therapists make the case for it.
Our therapists serve all of View Park and Windsor Hills, from the crest streets to the flats, Angeles Vista Boulevard, Overhill Drive, and Presidio Drive, Hillcrest Drive and the residential streets between Stocker Street and Slauson Avenue, and the surrounding hillside blocks.
The Work Done Before Surgery Shows Up After It
Patients are usually told that therapy begins after the operation. In practice, the strength you take into a joint replacement is a substantial part of what determines the early weeks afterwards ā the quadriceps does not recover from scratch, it recovers from wherever it was, and an operated leg that was already weak has further to travel.
Where surgery is planned, there is real value in the weeks before it: strengthening the muscles around the joint within the pain you have, practising the transfers and the stair technique you will need afterwards while you can still learn them comfortably, setting up the house in advance rather than in the exhausted first days home, and establishing measurements so that afterwards there is a baseline to compare against. None of that requires waiting for a discharge.
It applies to patients not having surgery too. For arthritis managed without an operation, strengthening, load management, and pacing do more over months than rest does, and we are honest that the aim is function and comfort rather than reversing what is on the X-ray.
What the Evaluation Covers
Your therapist measures strength, joint range of motion, standing balance, and gait speed, then measures the house: the entry and terrace steps, the staircase and its rail, the driveway grade, which rooms are on which level, doorway widths against a device you may soon need, furniture and bed heights, and the bathroom. Medications, blood pressure response to standing, and fall history are reviewed.
Conditions We Treat at Home
- Knee and hip arthritis, with and without planned surgery
- Preparation before joint replacement and recovery afterwards
- Balance deficits and fall prevention
- Gait retraining after stroke or with Parkinson’s disease
- Weakness and deconditioning after a hospital stay
- Back and joint pain limiting daily activity
- Hillside staircase and sloped-driveway training
Preparing a Hillside House in Advance
These properties have terraced approaches, steps between garden levels, and interior staircases, and the time to work out how you will manage them is before an operation rather than on the afternoon you come home. We walk the route from the street to the bedroom, identify which single change would matter most, and set it up in advance ā a rail specified and fitted, the bed arranged, the bathroom sorted. Households consistently find that the least stressful part of the whole process, because it happens while the patient can still participate in the decisions.
Coordination With Your Physicians
We coordinate with Crenshaw Community Health Center, Kindred Hospital Los Angeles, Centinela Hospital Medical Center, Southern California Hospital at Culver City, Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center, and Kedren Community Health Center. Your physician receives objective measurements and progress notes after visits, and where surgery is planned we share the pre-operative measurements with them.

Starting Physical Therapy Services
Home physical therapy requires a physician order documenting medical necessity. Medicare may cover in-home physical therapy if you qualify, which generally requires a physician order, a skilled therapy need, and homebound status as Medicare defines it. Ask the care team what arrangements may be useful for your expected restrictions, including access, essential supplies, equipment, and help. Recommendations should fit the procedure and your home. A preoperative PT visit still requires appropriate clinical and coverage arrangements.
