We assess each flight rather than the house as a whole: count, rise, tread, handrail side and condition, whether a landing exists. Ascent and descent are trained separately, since descent demands eccentric quadriceps control and that is what surgery and disuse take first. Where a flight is not yet safe we say so plainly and establish the workable alternative for the interim.

Your therapist measures strength, joint range of motion, standing balance, and gait speed, then applies them to the property: each staircase, the driveway grade, terraced paths, interior level changes, the bathroom transfer, and the distance to where a vehicle stops. Medications, blood pressure response to standing, and fall history are reviewed.

Arranging Care After a Hospital Stay

The simplest route is asking the discharge planner to refer you before you leave. We coordinate directly with Providence Little Company of Mary San Pedro, Providence Little Company of Mary Torrance, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, and Kaiser Permanente South Bay Harbor City. If you are already home, your physician can send an order and we can contact their office to request it. Most patients begin within one to two days of a completed referral.

Coordination and Insurance

We accept Original Medicare Part A & B, Blue Shield of California PPO, and Anthem Blue Cross PPO. Medicare generally requires a physician order, a skilled therapy need, and homebound status as Medicare defines it — which does not mean bedbound, and a blufftop driveway is itself relevant to that assessment. Coverage is not guaranteed in advance and is determined with your physician.

We also work with Palos Verdes Medical Group and Riviera Urgent Care, and with specialists off the hill. Your physician receives objective measurements and progress notes after visits.
